Generation II – downwind turbine

Alongside the incremental improvement of the open-source Hugh Pigott design, MinVayu will design a new turbine optimised for small, low-wind configurations.

This turbine will face downwind, removing the need for a tail. Its twin blades will be flexible, allowing them to bend in high winds, and reducing or eliminating the need for braking.

Initial blade will be 2.2 meters diameter and fiber-glass. A larger turbine will be 3.6 meters. As volumes increase both will move to injection or rotation moulding.

Its simplified design should allow for significant cost savings, especially for the smaller turbines.

This design will gradually replace the upwind (modified Pigott) design, once complete and field-tested.
